John William Powell, peacefully, on October 25, 2012, of Runnemede for over 50 years. Age 85.


Beloved husband of 56 years of Josephine (nee Clayman). Devoted father of John Warren Powell and Kathleen Filipek (Greg). Loving grandfather of Diana and Nicole Filipek.


Mr. Powell was a 1946 graduate of Gloucester City High School and went to college for 2 years. He was a veteran of the USMC during WWII.


Mr. Powell worked for Ironworker's Union Local 399 for 42 years and was on the executive board for 20 years.


He was a member of the Gloucester City High School Hall of Fame. He coached the Gloucester City Mustangs Football Team and was a coach for RYAA football and baseball. He was also a volunteer for Gloucester City High School Football for many years.


John was a soldier, husband, father and loyal friend to all who knew him.


There will be a viewing from 9 to 10am Thursday morning at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE.


Funeral Service 10am at the funeral home.


Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
