Alfred Anconetani, affectionately known as "Al "and "Alfie", of Magnolia, on October 23, 2022. Aged 88. Beloved husband of Barbara (nee Blanck) for 68 years. Devoted father of Barbara Lee (William), Alfred "Mick", Andrew (Karen), Thomas (Jeannie), and Gary. Loving grandfather of Barbara Marie, Rebecca Lee, William, Angela, Emily, Daniella, and Tommy, and great-grandfather of Isla Elizabeth. Preceded in death by sisters Thelma (Jim) and Nancy (Clarence), he will be missed by many other dear family members and friends, including sisters-in-law Mary Lou (Robert), and Nancy (Jim), numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Annie.

Al was born to Alfred and Anna (née Sloan) in Camden and graduated from Camden High. He maintained lifelong relationships with his friends from that era and enjoyed remembering "the good old days" with them. Al was a longtime resident of Magnolia, and served on the town council. He worked for many years in the wine and spirits industry first as owner and manager of Blanck's Bar and Liquor Store, and later as a sales representative for Jersey National, at Fedway Associates. He enjoyed sports and was an ardent New York Yankees and Boston Celtics fan. He rarely missed any of his sons' baseball games and was a loyal follower of the Men's Senior Baseball League for 11 years. His other favorite hobby was listening to traditional jazz and music from the 40's and 50's. Al loved to eat Italian food, especially his wife's stuffed olives.

There will be a viewing from 9:00am to 12 Noon on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE.

Funeral Service 12 Noon.

Interment is private at the request of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, R 200 E. Clement Bridge Road, Runnemede, NJ 08078

Dear pop-pop. I’m finding it hard to gather the words to even say how I feel.
I’m so glad I got to see you recently, and tell you how much I love you.
You were surrounded by so much love. You were so funny, kind, giving.. I’ll always remember you playing with the toy cars with me, your immense love for this family, your love for Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra.. all of your advice on life.
I am so forever grateful for you. Nothing will be the same with you gone. Rest easy, Pop-Pop. I don’t want to say goodbye. I miss you terribly. With so much love, Emmy.

Al always enjoyed a good laugh...his caring was always evident with family and friends and we always enjoyed the great cook outs in the back yard. May Barbara and family find peace and may he always rest in peace

A Angela Anconetani on Oct 28, 2022

My uncle got married in PA on Saturday. After a beautiful, perfect day in the golden hours of autumn, I lost someone immensely special.

My pop-pop has died, unexpectedly.

He was the best Pop-Pop I could have ever had.

He loved Christmas, baseball, (Go Yanks- forever & always) all things fun, and was the funniest guy I know.

He loved to dress up and always loved to see us dress up. I bought a special new dress just for him, for Tuesday.

He had the most beautiful eyes and warming smile. I wrote a poem a few years ago about his eyes, so I could remember that moment specifically, and I’m really glad I did.

He really had a sense of humor like no one else I’ve ever met. Which is part of why we always got along so well. No filter, dirty, sarcastic, and completely hilarious.

He always made me “special drinks” by the pool (but wouldn’t tell me what he put in them lol) and they were ALWAYS primo.

I just saw him last week, and he was fine.

He made sure he saved me a slice of pizza, because he always thought of everyone else. and as always, he asked my uncle to walk me out to the car because it was dark out, and he was worried. I didn’t ever think that would be the last time I’d see him, but I’m glad I always told him how much I loved him.

He said to me once “It ain’t over till it’s over!”

Now I’ll never get to hear him say “Hi, missy!” again.

It’s not “Heaven,” if the people we love are separated from us, and we have to suffer on earth without them.

I love you so much Pop-Pop, and I’m going to miss you terribly, for the rest of my life.

Thank you to all my loving friends and family who have been here for me, and have gone out of their way to reach out or try and cheer me up. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Thank you for helping me feel loved and not alone.
