I am sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. He was a great guy. I worked with Chuck at GE from 1990 until 1994. He was a smart guy who was kind and cared about people. Because of his recommendation I was offered a position with ITT that lasted for 15 years. I will never forget Chuck and will keep Chuck and his family in our prayers..

G George Busacca on Jan 20, 2021

My condolences to the Profera family. Chuck was an inspiration to many of us at RCA/GE/Lockheed Martin and a role model on how to lead with fairness, respect and dignity. I remember the day he announced to the antenna team he was succeeding Dr Keigler as section manager, my desk was outside the conference room and when he made the announcement, the antenna team gave him a standing ovation. I was so impressed that in a manager would get such a response and having worked for him I came to understand why. Chuck was an enlighten manager in a time when that wasn't the norm and made the high stress environment of our jobs much more bearable. He leaves behind a legacy in the space industry rooted in all the people he has touched. Rest in peace Chuck.

Chuck was a brilliant engineer and one of the best managers you could hope to have. But more importantly he was a mensch in the best sense of the word. His office was always open for anyone, even us entry level guys back in the day. And you always felt a little but smarter afterwards. Just a really good person and stand up guy. One thing I really admired about him was for all his education and achievements he never forgot his Philly roots.

My deepest condolences to Dr. Profera's family. We lost a good one.

I was very fortunate to work in Dr. Profera organization during the GE/Lockheed Martin time in East Windsor, NJ. Dr. Profera was a kind gentleman and a great technical leader. He led the organization with great care (like head of a family) and vision. Dr. Profera demanded good work (if not to absolute perfection) from each of us yet one never felt the pressure. While my time with Chuck was short, I carried many great lessons and experiences instilled on me by him that shaped my career later on. I was fortunate to reunite with Dr. Profera again in early 2000 when he assisted us on a project. And, the same Dr. Profera showed up: kind, care and technically sharp. It is with great sadness to say goodbye to a technical innovator, a great leader and a very kind person. May Dr. Profera Rest In Peace.
To Dr. Profera's family, please accept my deepest condolences.

Our family lost an amazing kind, gentle and brilliant relative who was admired by so many.

Chuck always stood firmly on solid ground and treated others equally.
He knew his roots, cared for his parents our entire family.

If you didn’t know his successes he would never tell you, he was that type of man.

As I reminisced back, my first thoughts were about his modest home and his room where he studied. We often our visited Aunt Iola’s and Uncle Charlie’s house for Sunday gatherings and I can remember the thrill when they got the first color TV. It wasn’t a 52” but it was so exciting.

Chuck would be diligently studying upstairs in his bedroom. I’d poke my head in shyly and say hello.
There was a desk, small lamp and on the nightstand was a large radio in wood tone, the only electronics.
This simple room, a room where Chuck worked and worked hard to become the man he was.

His graduation party from Drexel was a huge event for our family and the celebration was held on Norwood Street where he lived with my Aunt and Uncle.
I remember a huge galvanized tub stocked with a variety of sodas.
Wow, I couldn’t decide and as I stood there he told me I could take any flavor I wanted. Wow, my cousin, a college grad said I could take any soda I wanted. I chose Orange because we only had Pepsi at my house.

When I visited my aunt on Norwood Street one of his friends, Gus would stop by and I always felt at ease with them, they were kind even though I was a little girl.

I remember the day his dad died. It was 1964 and he received the call and had to tell his mom.
She was at the Auxiliary Women’s Club. Before he went there he picked up my mom & Aunt Frances to go with him to tell her the sad news. He was always that kind person, he loved his mother and was always concerned for her.

Years passed and I remember one Christmas he was spending alone with his mom and stepdad Glenn.
I insisted they join us for dinner. I was so proud to be entertaining him now that I was an adult.

Through childhood, teen years and later he was a dear cousin who I admired beyond words.

He never was mean, negative or dismissive to me. I just looked up to, bragged about and recognized his gentle kindness and brilliant mind.

I Love you, Chuck and am so thankful to be your cousin!

I met Dr. Profera for the first time in 1980, during an antenna design review, subcontracted by RCA to Spar. I was one of the Spar presenters, a junior and very green engineer, and he was the principal RCA reviewer. I still remember how nervous and shaky I was then, and how his kind smile and encouraging comments helped me to get through this traumatic experience. We met subsequently a number of times on shared work projects, and he hired me in early 1983, to join a truly outstanding antenna team at RCA Astro in East Windsor. Working with him over many years, until his retirement from Lockheed Martin in Newtown, has been a formative experience, both professionally and as an inspirational model of behavior. Dr. Profera was an exceptional person. He had a deep technical knowledge and understanding of satellite antennas and systems, and very good managerial judgement in moments of difficult decisions. But what I valued most was his kindness, good humor, wit, and considerate treatment of people. He was a natural and easy leader, and always a gentleman. I am very grateful to him for being such a positive guiding force in my life. May he rest in peace, he lived a good long life. My sincerest condolences to the Profera family for their loss.

Dr. Profera was an outstanding gentleman and a wonderful mentor. He was my first contact at my first engineering job in 1980 and remained an inspiration throughout my career. This is a huge loss in so many ways. My condolences to the Profera family.

M Mike Menzel on Jan 14, 2021

Chuck hired me in 1981 right out of college. Astro was a great place to learn satellite and communications engineering, and Chuck was a great boss, mentor and role model. Over the course of my career, I have often weighed many of my decisions by considering how Chuck Profera would handle them. I offer his family my sincerest condolences.

E Eric Talley on Jan 14, 2021

Chuck was a smart and kind gentleman who mentored many rising stars in the space industry. The technologies he and his team developed have contributed to all of mankind. Remember his laugh, his smile and his wisdom. Chuck, may you Rest In Peace.

I have only good memories of working for Dr Profera. He was kind, professional and inspiring.

B Bob Twiggs on Jan 14, 2021

Chuck was a great guy to work with at Astro. He was a kind and helpful person. All of us that had a chance to know him and work with him were privileged to have that experience.

R Ratnarajah Kularajah on Jan 14, 2021

Chuck was my mentor, the best boss I have ever had and my good friend. We quickly formed a bond, after he hired me in 1983, that has lasted till his passing. He gave me the honor of being his fellow "Sicilian". I always knew he had my back even when we had strong disagreements and he knew that no matter what, I would always work my very best for him; it was a special relationship that I was lucky to experience with this man. Although we had a strong friendship, he expected as much from me as the rest who worked for him and I think he expected more ( I say this with a smile). He was really a technical giant in antennas, a good teacher, and a genuine humble gentleman. I will miss him a lot and my only regret is not being able to see him one more time and enjoy a meal with him. Chuck you brought a lot of good things into my life and the period I worked for you and with you is the "golden work period" of my life; it was almost 20 years, not long enough and I am glad we kept in touch even after that and met from time to time. Goodbye my friend, Kula

M Marc Bjorkman on Jan 14, 2021

Chuck was my manager for many years when I was in East Windsor NJ. Dr. Profera was a one-of-a-kind individual who believed the people he worked with were capable of anything. He was a valuable mentor and will forever be in my thoughts. My condolences to the Profera falmily.

S Steve Hibbard on Jan 14, 2021

Dr. Profera is very likely the kindest department head I've ever had the pleasure of working for. Always personable, ever a gentlemen, disarmingly sincere, and frankly brilliant. The passing of an era. Steve Hibbard

A light went out in this world when we lost Chuck. I was his Admin for 20 years starting in 1981 - from RCA to Lockheed Martin. It was my honor to work for him - with him and to remain his friend all these years. Chuck’s Legacy will live on for years. He mentored so many engineers over the years (many from Drexel) who left their own mark because of Chuck’s guidance. He was their mentor & a friend. Great memories from “the good old days”. He was the “Doctor of Antennas” - but most of all - My Treasured Friend. You are in my heart forever. Donna Dunn

Condolences to the Profera family. I worked with Chuck for many years at Lockheed Martin and considered him to be one of technically talented, and classiest, engineers/mentors I have ever had the good fortune to work with. May peace, great memories, and pride be with you and all off us who held Chuck in such high esteem.

Cousin Chuck is a prime example of what it means to be a truly wonderful human being. When I was growing up he served as a positive role model for me who stimulated me to pursue my doctorate. I was always impressed by his pure brilliance and absolute genius matched by his great interpersonal style and willingness to help others. My brother and I owe him a great debt of gratitude for his patient and tireless mentoring of us in math. Chuck leaves behind a legacy of being a fine man and as one of those unique people you have the honor of meeting along the path of life. Rest In Peace Chuck.

S Sutinder Dhanjal on Jan 13, 2021

Chuck hired me in 1982 from England. He was a brilliant and innovative engineer. He always looked for the good in others and encourged them to do their best. He had a significant positive impact on all who worked in his group and the company he worked for. May the Almighty bestow a most favorable glance on his soul and his family at this difficult time. - Sutinder Dhanjal

Chuck Hired my wife Susan in 1985 and me in 1986. Through the years I knew him at work, Chuck demonstrated not only technical leadership to all of us, but was an example of how an executive can be effective at leading his organization. He created an environment where his people bonded personally as well as professionally such that even 35 years into our careers, we consider each other friends. Chuck was a significant influence and role model in my professional career and was a person I consider a friend. I also credit him with introducing me to Susan which led to a great marriage and 4 great Children. He also introduced me to Brigantine where we still have a house even after relocating to Colorado. I am truly sorry for the loss of this great man and my condolences go out to his family and all of his friends.

R Roy Landes on Jan 13, 2021

Chuck also hired me in 1986 from his alma mater. He was a true gentleman, a great leader and fun to be around. My dad was a big Sinatra fan so he and I would always talk about Frank when we weren't talking about satellite antennas. He will be greatly missed. Roy Landes

P Pete Stengel on Jan 13, 2021
