A Tribute to Carol Ann Filipek
March 13, 1945 - January 4, 2021

I wish I had spoken at your funeral - this is what I would have said...

Carol Ann, my mom, was a wonderful person. She was a blessing in so many ways. My mom was truly beautiful, inside and out. She was always there for her family. She loved being a wife, mom and grandmom. She loved being a sister and a friend. She loved taking care of her many pets throughout the years.

Carol Ann was a devoted wife for 53 years. My mom and dad grew up on the same street, Thurman Street in Camden. They both share a Polish heritage and went to the same schools. They met at a New Year's Eve party and Carol Ann and Larry started dating. My dad left for Germany to serve time in the Army, and my parents wrote many letters to each other. When my dad returned, they were engaged on Valentine's Day - and the rest is history. My mom always said that when she first met my dad, she knew she wanted to marry him. When they married on September 23, 1967, my mom told my dad that her cheeks hurt from smiling all day long! It was the happiest day in her life! My parents had a true love story.
Carol Ann was a hard worker through the years. She took pride in her work. She always said she enjoyed being a legal secretary. She was always my "go to" person for grammar and punctuation. Her success later on at her Clover job at the cosmetics counter and her grocery store job working in the office were proof of her excellent money skills. Carol Ann was a friendly worker and knew many of her customers on a personal level. Mom, I thank you for working those long hours to help provide for the family.

Carol Ann also took pride in her cooking. She was an amazing cook! She had some favorite recipes. Her beef vegetable soup, ham dinners and lasagna were a few of my favorites. I know Joshua and James will especially miss her delicious pancakes! I will miss spending time with her in the kitchen.

Carol Ann was a strong woman. A car accident in 1992 aggravated some back issues for my mom. During the last several years, she had a successful double knee replacement, was in remission for lymphoma, and dealt with some chronic pain issues with very little complaining. We were there with her during those struggles. But for her final battle, her battle with Covid, we wish we could have been with her in the hospital on a daily basis. Not being with her physically was extremely difficult. Mom, it is really unimaginable to know that you were alone and so afraid. We would have been in the hospital day and night if we could have been. Even when you were sick, you were worried about us - that is the kind of person you were. We are so very sorry your life ended the way it did and wish we could have done more. Mom, we are so very sorry for all of the pain and suffering you went through.

Carol Ann enjoyed the simple things in life. Things such as beach days, watching old movies and channel 12 mystery programs on TV, listening to Elvis music and playing her many Christmas CD's, decorating the house for the holidays, enjoying the garden and the many flowers, seeing Annie Belle have fun in the backyard and being her audience for her tricks - better known as homework, going out to eat at favorite restaurants, talking on the phone, being a grandmom and loving family time together were some of her favorites. We will miss your laughter and the smile you had while enjoying these times. We wish we had more time together and feel so broken without you.

My mom was a great listener and was always there to give advice. I so appreciate your support and encouragement you gave me throughout my life. I enjoyed sharing special moments with you and loved that we shared a lot in common. I enjoyed those times we shared at school together. You were my creative inspiration and often counted on you for input. I will miss our many conversations and I loved sharing everyday things with you. Mom, you were my best friend - what a blessing it was to have a mom as a best friend!

We have had many happy memories through the years. Vacations, holidays, birthdays, and family gatherings - it was mom who made them special! We will miss many things about Carol Ann. Her love, her caring ways, her understanding, the way she made us feel, wiping our tears and lending an ear, her encouragement and belief in us, holding our hands, and her just being there meant so much!
Mom, thank you for everything! You were the best mom. You were such a kind, loving and special person. You collected angels, and now you are our angel in Heaven. You were a true inspiration to our family, and you will continue to inspire us as we live in your memory. We will love and miss you forever! - Happy Birthday - Love always, love and hugs, your family.

Mom, I have so many words, too many to speak. Just like the memories I hold in my heart. As I reflect on the tributes friends and family have written here in addition to those who came to your services yesterday, it is clear to me how much an impact you had on so many. The love you shared with dad, the wonderful sister you blessed me with. The woman you helped me become. Seeing the moments you spent with your grandsons. I was blessed to be your daughter. I am so sorry your last few weeks were so difficult but I know you were strong throughout your life until the very end. I will continue living my life knowing part of your strength remains in me. I miss you so much already, until we meet again. Love you.

I had the privilege of seeing Mrs. Filipek the many times she came to SJA. She always greeted me with a beautiful smile and generally cared to hear how I was doing. Knowing Lori as long as I have, I’ve heard many stories of what a devoted mother, wife and grandmother that she was. I know that it is a tremendous loss for the family but they now have their own personal guardian angel watching over them. Lori, you and your family are in my prayers.

Lori, Lisa, Josh, James, Sam and Mr. Filipek - I am so sorry for your loss. I met Mrs. Filipek as she helped Lori with the beautiful SJA Art Show displays. She was always so nice with a warm and beautiful smile for all. I pray that she is at peace in heaven watching over you all! God Bless you!

Although I did not really know your mom, I know her family. I know her legacy. She has helped shape such beautiful souls and I am grateful for the love of Lori, Lisa, Joshua and James. I will pray for peace for you all and gratitude for Carol Ann

My mom was a wonderful person. I will miss her forever. She was a great listener, best friend, supportive mom, terrific cook, dog groomer, fashion consultant, and a very caring person. Annie misses you fussing with her curls. Thank you for always being there through the years. Thanks for helping me with the art show displays and bulletin boards - I inherited my creative gene from you. Thanks for everything. You were the best mom a daughter could have. You were the heart of our family and I will love and miss you always.
